Cluttery house…
Because of my normal lifestyle of leave, come home, drop everything, get new stuff, leave, come home, sleep, leave, etc. the state of my house has gotten a bit overwhelming. I worked on it most of the day til Mom called and wanted to go to Dayton. I mostly bought stuff to organize miniatures or things to make new miniatures (the second part of that of course just adds to the problem…). So, tonight until I go to bed, that’s what I will be working on.
Lazy, Lazy Weekend…
I really don’t feel like I accomplished a whole lot this weekend, but I am relaxed, and that’s saying something.

I spent most of my three days on the couch with the coffee table butted up to it gluing bricks on the doll house. Brick after brick after brick and I think I probably covered 12 square inches. There’s a point where I think, “Why on earth did I decide to do this?” Then I would get up the next morning and look at it and think, “Wow, that’s going to look good when it is done.” I also knocked out all the plexi glass windows because I found 1/16″ real glass at the dollar store in some picture frames.Saturday night we had a little surprise party for my aunt who turned 50.Mom cut my hair tonight. It now doesn’t even touch my shoulders and it feels so much lighter.Ryan bought a new motorcycle helmet and gloves tonight. His bike is being fixed. I didn’t worry about him before his accident, but now I think I will. He needs to get leather pants as well.
Weekend Stuff…
Saturday morning I decided to clean out my secretary desk. The last time I organized it was before we moved here, so that makes it over a year ago. It was well overdue.
Here are before and after pictures:

When we were done there we had lunch at CiCi’s pizza then went shopping at: Craft 2000 (a warehouse craft type place), Hobby Lobby, Goodwill and JoAnn Fabric. At the craft stores I ended up buying a couple Valentine’s decorations, paper for my Valentine’s, tulle for a tutu costume for a cousin, heart shaped paper brads and a new card magazine. At the thrift store I bought two red mugs with different colored stripes, a broken lamp that just needs rewired (it’s from target and I priced it online at $79.99, I got it for $4.99), a bowl that is red on the inside then white with red polka dots on the outside and a little glass terrarium that was originally from Bath & Body Works (it came with a candle originally, according to the label on the bottom).
I have pictures of the thrift store finds and some other stuff (Gurney, Paul, some other projects…) at my Kodak Gallery site.
Also…
I don’t like the way the background image and color displays on this computer, so I might do something with a white base and update to that this weekend…
It’s raining, it’s pouring…
Very unusual weather right now. It is pouring down rain and in the forties/fifties. This is not usual Ohio, January weather. Better than ice though.
I’m updating on my pc that I reformatted this past weekend. I have new pictures, but I haven’t installed any image editing software yet, so no pictures yet. I will fix that this weekend though.
I think Gurney’s new past time is just to see how often he can get me frustrated to the point of yelling at him. (I know dogs have no reasoning like this, but sometimes he really seems like a kid.) Maybe it is the springy weather, maybe it is something else, but he is driving me crazy. He’s been barking at random nothings whether it is in the middle of the day or two in the morning. In the evenings he’ll run from window to window whining like there is another dog around, and maybe he sees something out there, but I surely don’t. He’ll whine like he needs to go out, I’ll put him out and he’ll just stand there staring into space. Maybe these are all dog things, I don’t really know. Gurney is a new experience for me. Either way, I’m losing my patience.
On the news front: mattersoflife.com is getting sold, so if you use that domain, please update to smalltownsentiments.com accordingly.
The last time I saw Ryan was three months ago and I am already getting antsy and grouchy about not seeing him. I don’t think it helps that all of our other military friends are either home from being away or will be home in a few months. The spring weather isn’t helping either I don’t think. Some days I think I should have moved to El Paso this month.
Ah well. That’s part of the military…the being away.
On a more upbeat note…the pictures I have that I will be posting are a tutorial for making a quilted-as-you-go table runner/placemat (the example is in a Valentine’s Day palette of colors), a tutorial for how to put binding on a quilt and pictures of fabric for a new purse I am making.
So be expecting eye candy this weekend!
It’s a soup kind of day…

Mom and Dad bought me some plastic storage boxes for my Christmas decorations. They bought two of them and they fit under my bed. I went and bought a third today and that should hold everything. I am going to keep greenery, fake poinsettias and other fake seasonal plants in the third one. It’s nice to have all of those things in boxes that hold up rather than cardboard boxes.
I meant to get the last of all the decorations put away today and the houseplants reintegrated throughout the house (they have been on a cabinet in the back room while the Christmas decorations were up). That didn’t happen though as I crashed when I got home.
I might get something done yet tonight though. We’ll see.
New Year, New Blog…
This domain (smalltownsentiments.com) is going to eventually replace mattersoflife.com. For now, they’ll both point to the same place.
I sort of explained why I made the change off to the side, but I’ll elaborate. I like reading blogs about other people’s lives. At the moment there are six in my bookmarks toolbar. I think your blog title should say something about you and ‘Matters of Life’, while seemingly a really great name for a blog, really doesn’t say anything about me.
So…after a really long whois search I decided on ‘Small Town Sentiments’. The dictionary defines sentiment as:
Function: noun
Etymology: French or Medieval Latin; French, from Medieval Latin sentimentum, from Latin sentire
Date: 1639
1 a: an attitude, thought, or judgment prompted by feeling : predilection b: a specific view or notion : opinion2 a: emotion b: refined feeling : delicate sensibility especially as expressed in a work of art c: emotional idealism d: a romantic or nostalgic feeling verging on sentimentality3 a: an idea colored by emotion b: the emotional significance of a passage or expression as distinguished from its verbal context
I have an English Setter named Gurney and a spotted tabby cat named Paul. You can find multiple pictures of them in my Kodak Gallery.
Uhm, yeah. I think that is all I am going to say about my life right now.
Since it is the new year, I am going to list my New Year’s Resolutions:
•Be More Organized. I have three calendars this year. I have one here at home that lists family birthdays, family functions, vacations, etc. I have one at work that shows four months at a time and lists vacations, immediate family birthdays and random work stuff. My third calendar is my Franklin Covey planner. I love that thing. It lists my daily to do lists, vacations, immediate family and colleague birthdays, work functions, family functions and any number of other things. If those don’t help I don’t know what will.
•Blogging. Resolutions should be goals in my opinion. So…at first, I am going to blog at least once a week. By the end of the year I am going to try and work my way up to once a day.
•Finish my doll house. Hah! There are pictures of this monster in my Kodak Gallery too. I love my doll house though. The only brownstone I will ever own as they are sadly missing from small towns.
•Decorate the house more. It seems that I always have these great intentions to decorate the house for holidays, but those plans get put off until the holiday has come and gone. (Today I started a table runner for Valentine’s Day for the kitchen table, it just needs the binding, then I’ll post pictures.)
That’s all I can think of tonight. I don’t have any eye candy tonight as I haven’t been home and everything is a mess, but as soon as it isn’t, I have pictures of some new stuff I received for Christmas.
