What I didn’t need…

Was this:

Guinea Pig

But he is here now. I haven’t decided on a name. He came from the Warren County Humane Society.

Gurney is mostly ignoring him, except when he starts ‘popcorning’. (You can find videos of this on YouTube, but it’s a *hop, hop, bolt, stop, repeat* type thing.) Then he just watches and whines.

Paul won’t give it up trying to get him. I am not sure if he is playing or not, but I would prefer his paws not be reaching into the cage.

In other news…

Clinton County received 14 inches of snow last weekend. In two days. It sucked for driving and other general transportation (like walking). Gurney quite enjoyed it though and that led to my new favorite photo of the moment.

Gurney in the snow.

While he might look cold, and he might’ve been, he was having a great time. What he was doing was hopping through the deep snow (that was before it got too deep to walk in) then flipping around and digging in the holes he had just made.

I am having two wisdom teeth taken out tomorrow. I am also taking my car in to get the brakes changed. They are making the most nerve wrenching grinding noise. For the record, I have not put this off, they started this Tuesday or Wednesday of last week with no previous warning I recognized and believe me, I complain about car noises. So it should prove to be a fun and expensive day.

Anyway, I should go get ready for church now.

It’s that time of year…

I’ve reached that point of winter where I’m tired of it and I want it to go away because I’ve really stopped handling much of anything well. And I have that certain vindictive pleasure when the snow starts melting…but then it comes back and brings ice with it. Such a tease. Ryan called me today to tell me he dumped milk on his laptop. I hope it doesn’t mess up too much. It isn’t pop or sugary coffee, so I think if he cleans it up it should be alright. He said it would turn on, so I’m not sure just how much milk he dumped on it. I got the audiobook for ‘I Am Legend’ last week. I listened to it and at the end I found it was abridged. I don’t like the idea of abridging a book. Tonight I picked up the paperback and I was flipping through it, apparently whoever made the abridged version assumed that the story would be just as good by removing three quarters of it. Meh. So now I own a copy even if it does have Will Smith on the front. My Christmas present from Ryan should be here any day now and I’m very excited about that. Anyway, no pictures today. I should have some this weekend though.

Winter in Ohio…

Sunday it was around 60 degrees with wind gusts up to 50 mph. Today it was around 30 degrees. In this 30 degree atmosphere the weather couldn’t decide if it wanted to be sunny/sleet/snow/rain/etc. I went to Cincinnati today and when I got home this afternoon it was sunny, but cold. You could see the grass. I put Gurney out and about ten minutes later I looked out and saw this:

Snow!

Yeah. I’m ready for spring. After a not so great meeting at the church for the building committee I came home and made 6 dozen cookies for the donor center to staunch my irritation.

I now need to write a couple notes, package up Valentine’s Day presents (and no, this is not my fault it is a week late, I didn’t know they were traveling last week and I didn’t want cookies to sit over the weekend). Also of note: Gurney went to the veterinarian today for distemper and kennel cough. Their scales say he has put on two pounds since two months ago. That’s good. His ribs aren’t as obtrusive as normal. Apparently fast food is good for something-even if your 8 year old cousin is incredulous that you take the dog to Wendy’s for fries and chicken nuggets.

It’s a soup kind of day…

I’m not sure the temperature has gone above 20° all day. Right now it is 12°. That’s the real temperature, not the wind chill! Bah. I stand by what I said to my dad yesterday: “The only people who really like winter are those who do not drive every day.”I went to the doctor today since they wouldn’t call me in a prescription. I thought I had a cold, but it quickly turned into a sinus infection. Antibiotics and decongestants will deal with that.

Mom and Dad bought me some plastic storage boxes for my Christmas decorations. They bought two of them and they fit under my bed. I went and bought a third today and that should hold everything. I am going to keep greenery, fake poinsettias and other fake seasonal plants in the third one. It’s nice to have all of those things in boxes that hold up rather than cardboard boxes.

I meant to get the last of all the decorations put away today and the houseplants reintegrated throughout the house (they have been on a cabinet in the back room while the Christmas decorations were up). That didn’t happen though as I crashed when I got home.

I might get something done yet tonight though. We’ll see.
