New Year, New Blog…

This domain (smalltownsentiments.com) is going to eventually replace mattersoflife.com. For now, they’ll both point to the same place.

I sort of explained why I made the change off to the side, but I’ll elaborate. I like reading blogs about other people’s lives. At the moment there are six in my bookmarks toolbar. I think your blog title should say something about you and ‘Matters of Life’, while seemingly a really great name for a blog, really doesn’t say anything about me.

So…after a really long whois search I decided on ‘Small Town Sentiments’. The dictionary defines sentiment as:

sen·ti·ment
Pronunciation: \?sen-t?-m?nt\
Function: noun
Etymology: French or Medieval Latin; French, from Medieval Latin sentimentum, from Latin sentire
Date: 1639
1 a: an attitude, thought, or judgment prompted by feeling : predilection b: a specific view or notion : opinion2 a: emotion b: refined feeling : delicate sensibility especially as expressed in a work of art c: emotional idealism d: a romantic or nostalgic feeling verging on sentimentality3 a: an idea colored by emotion b: the emotional significance of a passage or expression as distinguished from its verbal context
I am attached to my small town. I’ve lived here for all but a few of my 26 years. The people who raised me have also spent most or all of their lives here. Throughout my blog I mention my family members and the things they do and have done for me. My family and the memories of them are important to me.I feel that an aspect of living in a small town is the aspect of doing things for yourself instead of using the convenience of a store. As far as cooking goes..when I was growing up we always had a garden, since I’ve had my own yard I also have a garden. I love to can and freeze things. In other aspects, if I want something, I’ll often make it instead of buying it. (I intend to have a projects/tutorial page at some point.) So yeah. I post pictures of things I make a lot.I have a boyfriend. I mention him a lot. He is an army medic who is deployed at Ft. Bliss right now. He’ll be home ‘for good’ in November. With the army though, ‘for good’ is a relative term.

I have an English Setter named Gurney and a spotted tabby cat named Paul. You can find multiple pictures of them in my Kodak Gallery.

Uhm, yeah. I think that is all I am going to say about my life right now.

Since it is the new year, I am going to list my New Year’s Resolutions:

•Be More Organized. I have three calendars this year. I have one here at home that lists family birthdays, family functions, vacations, etc. I have one at work that shows four months at a time and lists vacations, immediate family birthdays and random work stuff. My third calendar is my Franklin Covey planner. I love that thing. It lists my daily to do lists, vacations, immediate family and colleague birthdays, work functions, family functions and any number of other things. If those don’t help I don’t know what will.

•Blogging. Resolutions should be goals in my opinion. So…at first, I am going to blog at least once a week. By the end of the year I am going to try and work my way up to once a day.

•Finish my doll house. Hah! There are pictures of this monster in my Kodak Gallery too. I love my doll house though. The only brownstone I will ever own as they are sadly missing from small towns.

•Decorate the house more. It seems that I always have these great intentions to decorate the house for holidays, but those plans get put off until the holiday has come and gone. (Today I started a table runner for Valentine’s Day for the kitchen table, it just needs the binding, then I’ll post pictures.)

That’s all I can think of tonight. I don’t have any eye candy tonight as I haven’t been home and everything is a mess, but as soon as it isn’t, I have pictures of some new stuff I received for Christmas.
