A New Year
I’m sitting in my living room drinking a hot cup of tea, with the Christmas lights on and a candle burning in the fireplace. It is all quiet except for the furnace running and the occasional jingling of Gurney’s tags.
I should be cleaning, but I’m just sitting here.
I’m not big on New Year’s Resolutions because I tend to break them quite efficiently and quickly, but I do like to set goals and try to keep them.
This year:
- To create 300 ‘projects’. Since buying this house I’ve found that I work on the house and rarely do anything creative. There are rules that go along with this. A project has to be something creative, so it can’t be something like painting the walls or remodeling the bathroom…no ‘renovating the house projects’ count. Some cooking can count such as fancy cakes-baking cookies on a whim does not count. When making multiples of things, like mini food, I can count them each if I choose to (and I’m sure I will become desperate and choose to). All rules are at my discretion and subject to change.
- To keep a daily journal. I have always thought this was a good idea, and yes, I could do that here if I chose, but some things just shouldn’t be broadcast to the world-contrary to some of the things I read on facebook every day. So instead I printed out an additional copy of the planner I will be using at work. It is one page a day, lined, with the date at the top.
- To eat healthier. I am not going to say lose weight, exercise more, etc. I know I should do those things and occasionally I do start exercising more, but I know from experience if I watch what I eat, I will lose weight. I find that lately I eat out way too much though. I need to start planning ahead for a lunch at work that won’t make going out so tempting. In the past couple years I have cut out aspartame from my diet entirely and high fructose corn syrup almost entirely.
- To write more letters-real letters. I know some people think it is silly when you could write an email or even instant message instantaneously. There’s just something about a letter you receive in your mailbox on actual paper.
I think four goals is a good start.
I’m convinced that 2010 will be a happier year and a productive year for me…so here’s hoping.
Meh…
I have a (want)to-do list a mile long for this four day weekend, yet the weather has put me out of the mood to do any of it. It’s rainy and breezy out, it won’t surprise me if the fireworks get canceled tonight since it is supposed to be this way all day.
To Cook:
- I want to ‘learn’ to use the charcoal grill. Mainly for me, this has to do with the amount of charcoal to use. I bought a whole chicken, two pork steaks and a steak.
- I want to make the bread recipe from my new book ‘Artisan Bread in Five Minutes A Day’.
- I want to make homemade pizzas to freeze.
To Do Outside:
- Clean the garage (mainly I just need to take the canning stuff back to my parents’ house and sweep it out, I reorganized all of Ryan’s stuff in there awhile back).
- Weed the garden and plant the celery (if it isn’t too far gone already).
- Prune the bushes.
- Sweep the front porch.
- Re-caulk the back window.
- Sweep the back porch.
To Do In The House:
- Laundry (this is never-ending).
- Change the sheets on the bed.
- Dishes.
- Vacuum everywhere.
- Finish organizing the back bedroom.
- Clean the kitchen.
Projects I Would Like To Do:
- Desk Calendars for Christmas Around Sabina Town.
- Fabric Pom-Poms for Christmas Around Sabina Town.
- Make a cover for my new USB Flash Drive
- Make some wooden spools for embroidery thread (I don’t remember the website where I saw these, I’ll post pictures when I make them).
- Finish Painting my new coffee table and end table (the rain will hamper this).
- Paint my grandma’s old desk and an antique table for the back sewing room (the rain will also hamper this).
- Paint the two metal vintage lawn chairs my grandpa gave me last year.
I need to run to town at some point today. I didn’t plan to, but I’ve been thinking of things I could use. Right now that list is:
- BBQ/High Heat Paint for the grill.
- New Hinges for the antique table.
- Three cans of spray paint to paint the vintage chairs.
- Lawn bags for yard waste.
My dilemma is what town to go to (not much of a dilemma, but with my mood, it will be). If I go to Wilmington I could go to Big Lots to browse and I could get my other stuff at Ace Hardware. If I go to Washington Court House I could go to the thrift store and browse and get my stuff at Ace Hardware. Hrm. If it weren’t raining, yard sales might be the deciding factor. :P
Anyway, I’m off to go accomplish something.
Finally…
Oi this weekend has been stressful.
Between church, me breaking my website, my car and trying to take care of this house by myself…
New theme. Upgraded WordPress.
I only took took two pictures this weekend. One was of 6 gallons of used oil that Ryan had stashed in the garage. One of which was in a milk jug. Keep this in mind for future reference: if oil is left in a milk jug for a year, the milk jug plastic will start to go away. Yes, that made for a pleasant morning. After halfway cleaning out the garage I decided to clean out my car. I had put a bag of sand in my trunk in the fall. I don’t remember why I didn’t take it out. I believe it had something to do with it being wet. It didn’t occur to me why it would be wet. It was wet because my trunk was (is?) leaking. After emptying my trunk of sand and now ruined watercolor paper, I found somewhere around an inch of water in the spare tire well of my trunk (also where the battery lives). That made for an even more unpleasant morning turning to afternoon. After drying it out I poured water all over the trunk and couldn’t get it to leak.
I have a cleaner car now, and a cleaner garage. There is a place nearby that recycles used oil for free. I took as much as I could carry in one trip. There are three gallons left.
I used my last vacation day on Friday, but this weekend has been nothing of a vacation.
Tomorrow Mom and I are going to Cincinnati/West Chester. Gurney needs a bath really bad and hey, it is a good excuse to go to IKEA. I have never been to one and I am very much looking forward to that-and a clean dog.
Hrm…
Something funky happened when I upgraded WordPress, or at least, I noticed it after I upgraded.
The sidebar links to things within the blog do not work any longer. i.e. the archives or permanent links.
I do have new theme artwork for spring ready to upload, but I’ll hold off til I figure out why the links aren’t working…
Also…
I don’t like the way the background image and color displays on this computer, so I might do something with a white base and update to that this weekend…
